Best T-Mobile phones 2012: Four we recommend

Making heads or tails of the carrier marketplace here in the States can be mind-boggling. While some carriers offer unlimited data plans, others do not. And of the ones who do offer unlimited plans, it often takes doing some research to find out exactly how “unlimited” that plan is.

T-Mobile is one of the few major carriers to still offer unlimited data plans, even though you may experience some throttling (slowing down your data rates as your data usage goes up) if you are a heavy data user it may be worth the slower data rates to not exceed your monthly allotment.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 4G

Easily RIM’s best BlackBerry ever, there’s not much to dislike about the BlackBerry Bold 4G. Primarily a no-nonsense messaging device, the full QWERTY keyboard is great for corporate road-warriors and hardcore texters who need something a bit more tactile than a virtual keyboard.

Described by BlackBerry as a “tool” and not a “toy” it should come as no surprise that the camera on the BlackBerry Bold 9900 4G leaves much to be desired. Especially when compared to the cameras in phones like the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the HTC One S.

Samsung Galaxy S2

While we all wait for the Samsung Galaxy S3 to come to T-Mobile, its predecessor the Samsung Galaxy S2 is still no slouch. Additionally, as we wait for the Samsung Galaxy S3 to hit our shores, you’ll no doubt be able to score some great deals on the Samsung Galaxy S2.

While the BlackBerry Bold 9900 4G is all business, the Samsung Galaxy S2 is all fun. One of the best multimedia phones we’ve ever tested, this handset has what it takes to make you leave your stand-alone digital camera at home. Add to that next-generation web browsing in the form of Flash integration and well, for a phone that’s nearly a year old, this baby still rocks.

HTC One S

Easily one of our favorite phones to-date, the HTC One S is almost the complete package. While many will bemoan the scant 16GB memory cap and non-HD screen, the fact remains that this is still one of the best phones available for T-Mobile users in the States.

Designed with Android Ice Cream Sandwich in mind, we were blown away at how good the battery life is on this handset: especially for an Android phone.

HTC Radar 4G

The only Windows phone to make the cut, how you feel about the HTC Radar 4G will in many ways depend on how you feel about the Windows phone platform in general. Regardless of that, the build quality of the HTC Radar 4G is spectacular.

A solidly built device, it feels great in the hand and boasts excellent call quality.

Additionally, while many users bemoan the relative lack of apps that are currently available for Windows phone, the browser that ships with it is so complete and quick, that more often than not, using the browser is good enough.

iPhone 5 release date, news and rumours

Although widely expected, there was no iPhone 5 in 2011 after all, though the company did announce the iPhone 4S.

So we’ll surely see a total revision of the iPhone during 2012. We’ve gathered together all the latest iPhone 5 rumours to give us a reasonable picture of what Apple’s latest handset might be like.

You’ll find all the rumours below, but why not check out our iPhone 5 rumours video first?

iPhone 5 release date

Given the pattern of Apple’s iPhone launches, we’re expecting the next-gen iPhone 5 release date to be mid to late 2012.

It could possibly be shown off at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Event (WWDC 2012), which usually takes place in early June – even if the focus of the 2011 event was software. We are expecting iOS 6 and more on OS X Mountain Lion this time around so it could be that hardware is further down the list again.

Apple WWDC 2012: what to expect

We reported in February that the new iPhone would be launched in October, falling into line with the same release schedule from last year, and Macotakara ‘sources’ confirmed the Cupertino brand would be honouring the same upgrade cycle from now on.

According to analyst Shaw Wu, the Cupertino firm has reduced the number of iPhone orders by 20%-25% for the next quarter ahead of the release.

But rumours have persisted that the iPhone 5 release date is June 2012. It seems Foxconn was even gearing up for that date. Production was reported to be very close in late March 2012.

iPhone 5 form factor

Unlike the iPhone 4S, the new iPhone will be a completely new design from what has gone before, so that means an entirely new casing as we saw with the iPhone 3G and, later, the iPhone 4.

Interestingly, someone who claimed to have seen a larger iPhone 5 prototype said in November 2011 that Steve Jobs canned the new size and opted for the iPhone 4S. According to Business Insider, it was feared that a new size would create a two-tier iPhone ecosystem.

Beatweek also claimed in November 2011 that the 5-inch was scrapped “because Apple wouldn’t be able to do it properly” this year. However, the Daily Mail (make of that what you will) then suggested that a four-inch version was likely and that Sony has already shipped top secret demo screens to Apple.

iPhone 5 specs

Based on the roadmap of mobile chip design specialist ARM (of which Apple is a licensee), we’ll see a quad-core processor debut in the new iPhone 5 – probably called the Apple A6. We’ve seen other quad core handsets debut in 2012, so it’s not too much of a stretch to say that the iPhone 5 will be the same.

We had expected some kind of help in terms of predicting the iPhone 5 CPU from the launch of the new iPad, but the announcement of a slightly tweaked A5X processor really didn’t help things there.

In terms of other specs aside from the screen (more on that below), rumours are persisting that the iPhone 5 may have a new dock connector. Well, it had to happen sometime didn’t it?

iPhone 5 will have 4G/LTE support

After the new iPad’s launch brought 4G to an Apple device, it’s widely expected that 4G will come to iPhone 5. And with many 4G handsets already announced in the US, it can’t be long before the iPhone supports 4G technologies – even if we won’t even have a UK spectrum auction until late this year or maybe early next.

Because of the 4G fuss over the new iPad in the UK, we’d expect this to be played down in any UK handset – or the UK might get a different version entirely of course.

iPhone 5 screen

Various sources claim the iPhone 5 will feature a larger, 4-inch screen. Digitimes quotes the source as saying that Apple is expanding the screen size “to support the tablet Pc market as the vendor only has a 9.7-inch iPad in the market.”

On 23 May 2011, we reported on rumours that the iPhone 5 could feature a curved glass screen. These rumours also came from Digitimes, which said that Apple has purchased between 200 and 300 special glass cutting machines because they’re too costly for the manufacturers to invest in.

In March 2012, new reports suggested that the new iPhone 5 would come sporting a larger 4.6-inch retina display, while April rumours even suggested the next iPhone will use new touch technology and will be encased in something called “liquidmetal.”

During May, The Wall Street Journal cited sources as saying the device will definitely sport a 4-inch display.

iPhone 5 camera

Sony makes the camera for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. Speaking at a live Wall Street Journal event, Sony’s Sir Howard Stringer was talking about the company’s camera image sensor facility in Sendai, a town that was recently ravaged by the recent Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

According to 9to5Mac, he said something along the lines of, “Our best sensor technology is built in one of the [tsunami] affected factories. Those go to Apple for their iPhones?- or iPads. Isn’t that something? They buy our best sensors from us.”

Sources have also suggested the new iPhone could have an 8MP camera. Indeed, Sony announced in January 2012 that it had developed new back-illuminated stacked CMOS image sensors which are smaller in size.

Samsung Galaxy S3 View

There’s something so refreshing about seeing such fervour about a phone that’s not prefaced with an ‘i’ – so it’s almost an honour to be one of the first publications to get a proper hands on with the Samsung Galaxy S3.

While the Korean firm has been subject to the same clamour for information as Apple, which will have pleased the now-largest smartphone maker after years as an also-ran in the mobile phones space, it’s not been in the same league as the Cupertino lot when it comes to secrecy.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been snapped multiple times in leaks – some more accurate than others, it has to be said – and the specs mooted have turned out to be pretty bang on.

But that doesn’t matter – megapixels and gigabytes don’t mean anything if they’re not wrapped up in a decent package, so is the Samsung Galaxy S3 a worthy successor to the much-loved Galaxy S2?

Design

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is, according to Samsung anyway, ‘inspired by nature – it sees, listens, responds, and allows you to share the greatest moments’.

While this is all a little hyperbolic, the nature theme is certainly present when you handle the phone for the first time. Brushed plastic – you’ve got a choice of ‘Marble White’ and ‘Pebble Blue’ – adorns the large device, which runs in with dimensions of 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6mm, despite still having to pack in a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD screen.

We’ll lay it out right now: the plastic feeling of the Galaxy S3 won’t appeal to all. It feels very lightweight (despite tipping the scales at 133g) in the hand, and some people will read this as feeling a little cheap.

However, it’s exactly the same sensation as we found on the Galaxy S2, and given the silly numbers of sales that had, we think there’s more than a market for a phone that you’ll barely notice in your pocket most of the time.

Compared to rest of the Galaxy line, the S3 has more in common with the original Galaxy S than the Galaxy S2, with curved edges the theme in the design language. The home button has also been elongated, although the same menu and back buttons remain from the prequel.

Overall, the effect is much more like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus than anything else – rounded edges, HD screen but with a more minimal bezel to really accentuate the screen in the hand.

And let’s take a minute and talk about the screen: it’s beautiful. We almost feel sad that this isn’t the first HD screen we’ve seen on a mobile phone, as it’s kind of lost its lustre since the likes of the Nexus, Note and One X have all managed the same trick – but if you’ve not seen one before and you compare it to a Galaxy S2, its worlds apart.

The 309ppi pixel density is up there with the iPhone 4S, and it makes us realise that while a Retina Display is lovely, 3.5-inch screens just don’t cut it any more.

We’ll be mightily surprised if the combined popularity of the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S3 don’t prompt Apple into a re-tooling of the screen with the iPhone 5, as the contrast ratio, large display and excellent colour reproduction will definitely wow users on the shelves.

It seems Samsung has tweaked the colour balance on the Galaxy S3 as well – things don’t look as saturated as before, which will certainly help entice those that previously were against Super AMOLED before due to the harshness of colours.

But in the hand, the Samsung Galaxy S3 feels superb. The design contours well against the palm, and while the screen size may be a little big for some (you’ll need a bit of shuffling to reach the upper section of the screen) it’s definitely useable in the hand.

So in short: if you don’t mind plastic and you like big HD screens in your pocket, this is a phone definitely worth checking out.

Interface

Samsung has unsurprisingly re-tooled the Touchwiz overlay for the Galaxy S3, and has really gone to town with the whole ‘inspired by nature’ business.

For instance, the lock screen now becomes more interactive than ever. You don’t get a visual clue when you’re unlocking (which may be a nod to the litigation brought forth by Apple on the subject) but touch the screen and you’ll see a little water ripple under the finger.

Samsung Galaxy S3 review

Added to that is a little water drop sound, and the whole effect is surprisingly pleasing. We can see it irritating a few people after a while though, so turning it off will probably be a decent option.

It’s clear with the S3 that Samsung has worked out there’s only so much it can do on the hardware side these days – not to say that we’re pretty impressed with the spec list – and as such has tried to bring the unique flavour through the interface instead.

With the re-worked Touchwiz, there’s a definite sense the whole process has been simplified, as the phone has got a much easier feel to it when swiping around. That’s not to say there aren’t loads of widgets to be played with, but there is less clutter on the larger screen.

The dock at the bottom of the display has been increased to now hold five favourite items, which is a real plus for those that want internet, mail, phone and messaging all within easy reach (as well as the app menu).

Swiping around the display was easy as pie – it’s not exactly taxing on the processor, but we could not find a jot of slowdown in the pre-production model we were playing with, which always bodes immensely well.

However, there is a worry that the quad core 1.4 GHz Exynos CPU could suck power a little too dramatically – and to that end Samsung has come out with an innovative eye-tracking method called Smart Stay.

This idea will track your eyes when looking at the display, and dim it when you’re not checking out your phone. In practice it seemed a little all over the place when trying it, but there’s only a momentary icon that pops up to let you know if the eye has been tracked by the camera.

It’s a novel idea though, and one that could really be ace if it comes to fruition as Samsung hopes.

The other ‘smart’ idea Samsung had was the idea that voice recognition could work with S Voice – and we hope that this does actually happen as it was nowhere near Siri level on the Samsung Galaxy S2.

Visually, there are a few cues from Siri in the demo we saw – the layout is pretty similar, as you can see, and the phone itself needs to be trained to hear your voice for certain features.

For instance, you’ll have to repeat your wake up call, be it ‘Hi Galaxy’ or ‘Hi Buddy’ four times so the phone learns the timbre of your voice, which feels a little last century, but does improve the accuracy

We’re still not convinced that voice control will ever really work on a phone, but Samsung is touting ‘natural language processing’ as the reason why the phone will be more accurate in hearing what you say.

Smart alert is also present, and will be a lot more useful than voice activation. Pick up the phone when you’ve got a missed call or text and it will vibrate gently in your hand in combination with the notification light to let you know you’re a popular bunny.

HTC Evo 4G LTE release date – could be coming soon

Sprint could release the highly anticipated HTC Evo 4G LTE Android phone in under three weeks on May 18.

The HTC Evo is the final piece of Sprint’s new 4G LTE-enabled trio, rounding out the already-released Samsung Galaxy Nexus and LG Viper.

Although AT&T and Verizon have been rolling out their 4G LTE networks for some time, Sprint has been somewhat late out of the gate.

But the carrier plans to bring the faster 4G data standard to 10 cities, including Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Baltimore, Kansas, and Atlanta, by mid-June.

And the Evo, Nexus, and Viper will be the first phones to take advantage when they do.

HTC One X vs Evo 4G LTE

Sprint’s HTC Evo 4G LTE brings a number of improvements to the already stellar HTC One X.

The two phones share a 4.7-inch, 1280 x720 resolution Super-LCD screen, 8 and 1.3 megapixel rear- and front-facing cameras, Snapdragon S4 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and 16GB of memory with 32 additional gigs via optional Micro SD slot.

In addition, the HTC One X and Evo 4g LTE both use Android 4.0: Ice Cream Sandwich, HTC’s Sense 4.0 UI overlay, the Beats Audio equalizer, and HDMI Media Link for wireless HD streaming.

But unlike the plastic One X, HTC’s Evo 4G LTE is housed in an aluminum unibody, and the Evo kickstand has returned from earlier Evo phones. Now it can even charge while it’s kickstanded.

Furthermore, the Evo’s battery gets a boost over the One X, from 1,800 mAh to 2,000 mAh.

HD Voice

The most exciting feature, though, is one that until now has only been available in Europe: HD Voice.

The technology will make call quality clearer than it’s ever been before, and HTC’s 4G LTE on Sprint will be the first phone to bring HD calls to the US.

Between HD Voice and the promise of soon-to-come lightning-fast 4G LTE data speeds, the new Evo could be the phone to beat this year.

If the current rumor holds true, the HTC Evo 4G LTE will be released on May 18 for $199 with a two-year contract, exclusively through Sprint.

Samsung Galaxy S3 release date, news and rumours

Samsung’s flagship 2011 Android phone received a glowing 5/5 score when we reviewed the Galaxy S2 earlier this year.

And it was no surprise – Samsung packed a very powerful and capable processor plus a very nice camera into an unbelievably slim case.

Samsung published endless press releases about its ever growing global sales figures, which can only mean one thing. A sequel is guaranteed for 2012.

Samsung has confirmed that the new Galaxy S3 will be launched on May 3 at Earls Court, London – will it be your next Galaxy smartphone though?.

The Galaxy S 3 (which we’ve also seen referred to as the Galaxy SIII) is bound to be at least powered by a dual-core processor, but there’s even been rumour of a quad-core chipset in Samsung’s pipeline, which may power the S3. Here’s what else we’ve gathered so far.

Check out our Samsung Galaxy S3 photo evolution gallery – do you believe any of them?

Samsung Galaxy S3 video teaser

Update: Samsung has been messing with our minds, as it firstly put up the tgeltaayehxnx.com website complete with mysterious countdown after a cryptic tweet from its mobile Twitter account – which was followed by a video teaser for the upcoming event on May 3 in London, once the countdown had ended.

The video gives little away when it comes to the Galaxy S3, however Samsung manage to get a dig in at the competition, calling them all sheep. Take a look for youself…

Samsung Galaxy S3 UK release date

The Samsung Galaxy S3 launch date has been annouced as May 3. An invite sent to TechRadar confirmed the event will take place at Earls Court in London.

It’s great to finally have the May 3 date in the diary. Over the past months we’ve seen more rumoured dates than you could shake a stick at, from the original expectation of a Mobile World Congress launch in February, to various reports from around the world including March 15, March 22, March 30, April and May 22.

What this shows is that Samsung has done a darn good job at keeping its plans under-wraps and we’re still none the wiser on when the Galaxy S3 will actually hit stores.

We expect the Samsung Galaxy S3 to land in your hands soon after the launch event, in an Apple-style assault on the market, which sees a super-quick turn around from announcement to handsets getting shipped.

Samsung Galaxy S3 US release date

The Samsung Galaxy S3 launch date has been annouced as May 3. An invite sent to TechRadar confirmed the event will take place at Earls Court in London.

It’s been suggested the reason Samsung has delayed the Galaxy S3 until after MWC 2012 is so it can be launched simultaneously in the US and rest of the world.

The Galaxy S2 suffered a US release delay, which saw it arrive several months after the rest of the world and Samsung is keen to avoid the same situation this year.

The US market may see different variants of the Galaxy S3 handset which is set to be revealed on May 3, as Samsung could opt to only launch 4G enabled Galaxy S3′s in regions which currently support the high-speed network – thus leaving parts of Europe with a 3G version.

Samsung Galaxy S3 price

Obviously we don’t have pricing details for an unannounced phone, so all we can do is speculate. Given the recent launch of the Galaxy Nexus, which sold for an enormous £520 around its launch and for the following few weeks and was available on contracts starting at £36, that’s the high-end level we expect of the S 3.

The Galaxy S2 was put on sale for £500 at launch, and contracts for a whopping £46 per month weren’t hard to find either. However, that price dropped very quickly, so we expect the same to happen again.

In fact, given the success of the S2 (pictured below), we could even see it set new highs for Android phone prices, as Samsung fans clamour for what will surely be one of 2012′s must-have mobiles.

Samsung Galaxy S3 processor

Back in November, details of a next-gen Samsung Exynos 4412 chipset were uncovered, describing it as a quad-core unit said to be clocked at 1.5GHz.

Given that Android manufacturers are all clamouring to boast about who’s got the most cores in their devices, it’d make perfect sense for the S3 to be announced as a headline-grabbing quad-core phone.

If not, Samsung has officially revealed its work on the dual-core Exynos 4212, a dual-core ARM9 chipset that’s claimed to be 30% more efficient and substantially faster than the unit inside the Galaxy S2. Even that lesser option would still make the S3 a great phone.

Or there’s the newer Exynos 5250, an up-to-2GHz dual-core model that supports an incredible maximum resolution of 2560×1600. This seems primarily designed for tablets, but with phone specs increasing at such massive speed, who knows?

Samsung Galaxy S3 operating system

Nothing is confirmed yet, of course, but given the Q2 2012 launch date and the fact that Samsung is already releasing test versions of an Android 4.0 update for the Galaxy S 2, the S 3 is all but guaranteed to arrive with a version of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich release.

Google has recently published the 4.0.3 code which it says should be considered the baseline of the Ice Cream Sandwich code, so expect that version to launch on the S 3 at the very least.

We would also expect the Galaxy S 3 to feature a version of Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface skin layered over the top of Android as well, which will help differentiate the phone from the “vanilla” Android 4.0 as found in the Samsung-made Galaxy Nexus.

Samsung Galaxy S3 memory

Not much to go on here at the moment, but 1GB of RAM seems to be emerging as the new benchmark for comfortably running Android while maintaining solid performance, so that’s our best guess for the S 3.

In terms of onboard storage, the Samsung-made Galaxy Nexus did away with the SD card storage slot, only letting users have the 16GB the phone came with. If that’s the way Samsung and Google see the future going, perhaps the S3 will bin SD card support as well.

Samsung Galaxy S3 display

The Galaxy S2 seemed enormous with its 4.3″ screen, but since then we’ve had the even bigger 4.7″ HTC Sensation XL, the 4.65-inch Galaxy Nexus (below) and the insanely huge 5.3″ Galaxy Note. The most recent mention of Galaxy S 3 screen size came in a rather dodgy-looking Samsung presentation slide, which claimed the S3 would feature a 4.6″ screen.

Samsung Galaxy S3 camera

All we have to go on here is more news from Samsung’s imaging development teams, which announced the 16 megapixel mobile sensor back in October.

The tech spec of the S5K2P1 state it can capture 60fps HD video, while the still system can take 30 8.3 megapixel shots a second, eliminating shutter lag. If that sensor makes it into the Galaxy S3, every smartphone user in the country will be blagging an upgrade on launch day.

A picture was taken apparently using the camera on Boxing Day, with the EXIF data confirming not much more than it has a flash and it was used at Samsung HQ – is this picture of a plant really the future of Samsung photography?

HTC One X vs Samsung Galaxy S3

According to the latest rumors about the release date of Samsung Galaxy S3 that, the new Samsung Galaxy phone will come out within two weeks. Although Samsung hasn’t revealed any official information about it, it is already causing troubles for its competitors like HTC One X which is also said to be released at May 6th, 2012.

Related news say HTC shares dropped over 6% on Tuesday on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, the latest earnings report recorded a 70% year on year drop in profits for Q1 2012 and a 35% year on year decline in revenues for HTC, which seems to have been enough to convince the firm’s brass that they need to drive the company towards some sort of change.

Then, why Samsung Galaxy S3 makes HTC investors uneasy? Perhaps, first of all, we need to get to know both of them, what’s the difference between them.

Comparison between Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X
Processor and CPU:
The international version of the HTC One X will sport the Nvidia Tegra 3 SoC, meaning that, at a CPU level, you’ll get a quad-core ARM A9-based processor clocked at 1.5GHz, accompanied by a fifth companion core designed to help run tasks that don’t require full speed.
While, rumors and leaks reported different clock speeds for the CPU inside the Galaxy S3, it is certain that the Samsung Galaxy S3 will use a quad-core ARM A9-based Exynos 4212 chip designed by Samsung themselves. Notably, one of those leaks claims that the Exynos 4212 will be clocked at a staggering 1.8GHz.

RAM and Storage:
The International HTC One X will feature 32GB of storage space, the same amount rumored to be available for the S3. While the One X doesn’t feature an SD card expansion slot (something expected to be available on the S3), the 25GB of free cloud storage offered by the HTC-DropBox partnership more than makes up for the slight inconvenience.

When it comes to the amount of RAM available, rumor has it that the S3 will be equipped with 2GB of RAM, double the amount inside the One X.

Display
The HTC One X features a 4.7 inch Super LCD 2 display running at a native 720p resolution. While, the most recent rumor points out that Samsung will use a 4.6 inch SAMOLED HD Plus display running at a 1280 by 720 pixel resolution on the S3

OS and Extra
Both the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S3 will run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest version of Android available.

When it comes to the cameras, the S3 is expected to be equipped with a 12MP camera, but this is the section the HTC One X is likely to dominate thanks to the new image processing technology HTC have announced for all smartphones in the One series. In addition, the HTC One X also features Beats Audio integration, meaning it will surely offer top-end MP3 playback quality.

Play video on Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X
Samsung Galaxy S3 is expected to be equipped with a 12MP which can record 1080p/60fps video, while HTC One X has a 8MP camera which can record 1080p/30fps video. Both of them support playback AVI, 3GP and MP4 video.

Therefore, if you want to play your video files on Samsung Galaxy S3 or HTC One X, you need to check your video files, if they are not in the correct format, then, you need to convert your video files to Samsung Galaxy S3 or convert video files to HTC One X .

New iPad Mini rumors

Rumors this week point toward Apple releasing yet another new iPad, despite the 3rd generation iPad (unofficially called the iPad 3) having come out less than a month ago.

The new iPad could be called the iPad Mini, and it could sport a 7.85-inch screen and a 1024 x 768 display (like the iPad 1 and iPad 2). In comparison, the iPads currently available have 9.7-inch screens, and the iPad 3′s retina display is a higher (2048 x 1536) resolution.

According to Kotaku reports on claims [Google translation] from Chinese web portal NetEase, Apple is planning to launch a new entry-level iPad tablet in the third quarter to face the onslaught of Windows 8 tablets. This tablet will cost either $249 or $299, therefore the smaller android tablet such as Amazon’s Kindle Fire have also been taken as targets for Apple.

Competing with Windows 8

Just yesterday, analyst Shaw Wu said that a new iPad Mini would be “the competition’s worst nightmare,” referring to smaller, 7-inch tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, Kindle Fire, and rumored Google tablet.

In addition, Apple’s biggest competitor, Microsoft, is slated to unleash Windows 8 this year, though a new iPad release could potentially detract from its impact if timed correctly.

There is little information about the New iPad Mini but the display is rumored a lot. According the rumors now, the display may be 7.85 inch with 1024*768 pixel. So density of the iPad minn will be 163 pixels per inch, exactly the same density as the non-Retina iPhone and iPod touch models and the display effect will be more lifelike.

Skepticism
Despite the latest reports, though, there are reasons for skepticism. First, rumors of a smaller version of the iPad have circulated since Apple’s initial introduction of the product in early 2010 and have not come to pass. Second, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was famously skeptical of 7-inch tablets, calling such devices “tweeners” that are too big to compete with smartphones and too small to vie with the iPad. Finally, Apple would likely cannibalize sales of its pricier iPads if it released a smaller, cheaper model.

Video function
From the iPad series we can safely say that the iPad Mini can play only several comon formats such as Mp4,mov, m4v and so on. So it is a pity not to be able to enjoy movies rather than these formats if you do not want to purchase movie from iTunes. If you get a Video Converter for mac , this problem will be solved perfectly. It can convert videos between most common formats such as AVCHD, MTS, MOD, MKV, WMV, AVI, and so on. With it , you will be able to enjoy HD videos with iPad freely. If you are a Mac user, you can turn to Video Editing Software for Mac help, which is more capable of converting HD videos to portable devices.
